A major accident occurred when a crane collapsed onto a train travelling from the capital Bangkok to a northeastern province of Thailand. According to officials, at least 22 people died and more than 30 were injured in this tragic accident. The incident happened on Wednesday, January 14, in the morning in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, 230 kilometres from Bangkok. Local police told the media that the train derailed due to the crane falling on it and caught fire for a short period.

This train in Thailand was going to Ubon Ratchathani province. According to local media reports, the crane was working on a high-speed rail project. During this time, the crane suddenly collapsed and fell onto the train. Rescue workers immediately reached the scene after the accident and began rescuing injured passengers from the debris. A video of this rescue operation has also surfaced on social media. Police said, "The fire has been extinguished and rescue operations are ongoing."

195 People on Board the Train

According to Thailand's Transport Minister, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, a total of 195 people were on board the train. Officials are now working to identify the deceased. This crane was being used for the construction of a $5.4 billion high-speed rail network in Thailand. This project is being carried out with the cooperation of China and aims to connect Bangkok to Kunming city in China via Laos by 2028. It is part of China's vast Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
